Buccal fat removal or cheek reduction treatment is a procedure done to remove the buccal fat pads inside the cheeks.
These pads are responsible for the round appearance of a face and can give some people a chubby look. During a buccal fat removal procedure, the doctor will make small incisions inside the mouth to remove the pads.

A Story Of Craftsmanship & Vision
Buccal fat removal is usually an outpatient procedure, meaning you can return home the same day of the treatment. The procedure takes about one hour. Here’s how it’s done:
Anaesthesia
Local anaesthesia is given to numb your cheeks. You will be awake but drowsy and insensitive to pain
Incision
An incision about 2-3 cm long will be made between your cheek and gums. The incision will start above the second upper molar at the back of the mouth.
Fat removal
Pressure will be applied on your cheek bones, causing the buccal fat to protrude from the incision. The fat is then teased out using forceps or surgical tweezers.
Closing the incision
After the necessary amount of fat is extracted, the incision is sealed with sutures.
Nobody Does Buccal Fat Removal Like A.D.S
After your cheek reduction treatment, you may experience mild swelling and discomfort around the cheeks. These symptoms should subside in a few days.
You will need to follow some post-operative guidelines to ensure that your recovery proceeds smoothly:
– Avoid drinking and smoking
– Avoid spicy and hot foods
– Avoid strenuous exercise for the first week after the procedure.

Dr Lai Juen Bin
Dr Lai is a Specialist Facial Reconstructive Surgeon at A.D.S Clinic, the only leading aesthetic and facial plastic center which employs a team of internationally trained specialists and surgeons with over 50 years of combined experience in private practice. He is a highly experienced top senior consultant surgeon who performs the most face and neck slimming surgeries in Singapore.
Before working at A.D.S, he held senior positions in several medical establishments. In the years 2008 and 2009, he was a senior consultant and clinical assistant professor in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the National Dental Centre. From 2013 to 2020, He was also the Head of Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Changi General Hospital.
He graduated from National University of Singapore in 2000, during which he was a Dean’s List recipient and received bronze and gold medals. Thereafter, he completed his Masters in Maxillofacial Surgery and obtained Fellowships of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and Academy of Medicine, Singapore. Subsequently Dr Lai also trained at the prestigious American Academy Of Cosmetic Surgery and received accreditation in facial plastic surgery.
